Global searches start on your home server. Only your shares and 'server' mode searches are limited to the server that you're connected to.

I don't connect to them but Emule does query servers other than the one you're connected too. I leave them though because many have >1mil fiiles and they are not fake. Most of the other half try to impersonate other big servers if only by name. These are the USA servers on my lists (I don't bother with server lists, I have my emule get them from the servers and from my leeches).

The servers have been removed from many lists already, and are currently proven safe. Although it is not clear how the servers managed to slip past administrators, it is apparent that around 98000 people were using just one server before the problem was spotted. The servers, which were all hosted in the United States of America, were listed in a number of commonly used eMule server lists. MediaCentry is a company affiliated with both the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and have been responsible for the tracking of a number of peer-to-peer users over the last year. An attempt by the media industry to strike back at peer-to-peer users was revealed both to Methlabs and eMule users earlier today, as the tracking group MediaCentry set up several fake eMule servers to try to catch file sharers.
